For Anyone Suffering From Candida Infection

Every day, thousands of people suffer from symptoms of candidiasis that aren’t immediately visible to their doctors, much less to friends around them. Two years ago, James Schreiber (21), a college student, took matters into his own hands and founded a personal website to help raise awareness of this little-known and frequently misdiagnosed problem.
Schreiber’s ordeal began four years ago, when he was taking antibiotics and steroids, compounded by stressful situations both at home and school. “Suddenly, I started to experience a gradual deterioration in health. I lost 30 pounds, was extremely tired and weak, couldn’t concentrate, and had headaches almost every day,” he said. “The doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me, and none of my friends were receptive to the idea that someone so young could possibly be that sick.”
Advocacy. Education. Support.
It was this experience that inspired Schreiber to fight the lack of awareness and education about ‘invisible’ disabilities such as Candida, lupus, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. “It took me six months just to find a doctor familiar with chronic candidiasis and that’s why I decided to make the public aware that these illnesses do exist.”
His website (http://www.ecandida.com) has been in operation for almost two years and attracts thousands of visitors per month. “As a former sufferer of Candida infection, this subject is extremely close to my heart as I got to witness first hand how devastating this condition can be – and what toll it can have on our loved ones,” explains Schreiber, who will soon celebrate two-year anniversary of his blogging efforts.
Schreiber said he hopes that running his own website has helped raise public awareness for the condition that has impacted him so much. “To me that is huge, because now thousands of people know what the problems associated with chronic candidiasis are,” Schreiber said. “You can’t solve the problems if you don’t know they exist.”
