There’s a lot you can do to get rid of Candida and start living again – and your doctor can be a great resource. Here are 7 questions to help you start a dialog with your doctor and begin your journey to coping with Candida infection.

-
What do you think is causing my problem?
Some risks for Candida infection – like your medical history, age, or gender – can’t be changed. Other factors, however, are well within your control. You may be able to slow the progression of the condition by making specific dietary changes, getting regular exercise, avoiding antibiotics and birth control pills, and making other lifestyle changes that your doctor can outline for you.
-
How will you treat my Candida yeast infection?
There are several options for treating Candida infection, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs and creams, alternative treatments, and lifestyle measures. Based on the severity of your symptoms and how long you have had yeast infection, your doctor may recommend you one or a combination of these approaches to relieve your discomfort.
-
Can complementary and alternative treatments help?
Recent research has identified a number of promising natural treatments for Candida infection, including probiotics and natural antifungals. Depending on your doctor’s comfort and familiarity with natural treatments, he or she may help you make sense of this information or may even refer you to other health care professionals with expertise in complementary medicine.
-
What foods do you recommend I avoid?
Because poor diet establishes a breeding ground for Candida, your doctor may ask you to follow an eating plan to avoid nutrient poor, high-carbohydrate foods that encourage Candida proliferation.
You can also ask about which foods specifically can negatively affect your Candida treatment.
-
How can I manage the stress of having Candida infection?
Having any chronic condition can be stressful and yeast infection is no exception. As I wrote in article Candida and Stress, making simple lifestyle changes, such as incorporating deep breathing, meditation and yoga into your daily routine, can significantly help you cope with the emotional effects of living with Candida yeast infection.
If you’ve never done this, it may very well sound silly to you. So let it seem silly, and do it anyway.
-
What types of exercise can help minimize my Candida symptoms?
Inquire about activities such as stretching and aerobics that can help you ease common Candida symptoms like fatigue and muscle weakness. You should also inquire about how your daily activities will change.
-
Do you have any suggestions on how to explain my condition to friends, relatives and coworkers?
Your doctor can often provide advice on how to tell your loved ones about Candida.
Other questions to consider
I wish I could stop at seven questions, but Candida infection is such a complex condition that I’ll list a few more questions that came to my mind:![]()
- What is your experience in treating this condition?
- Aside from your own partners, who would you go to for medical treatment if you had this condition?
- If my symptoms worsen, what should I do on my own? When should I contact you?
- Are there any warnings I should know about since I’m pregnant?
- How long will it take before I feel relief? How long before I’m cured of my Candida infection?
- Where can I find more information?
Don’t be afraid to ask these questions or to ask for clarification as needed. Learn about your disease, take an active role in your treatment, and you can help to greatly reduce your chances of having something go wrong.
There’s a lot to digest in this post I know – but I’m certain that among the eCandida readership there’s a lot of wisdom and experience that could be added – so what what was your experience with your doctor? Was he receptive? Did she get upset? Do you have advice for others? Share your experience in the comment section bellow!

My doctor doesn’t believe in candida infections outside of what he can see unfortunately, but when they found no other reasons for my problems and I knew I had a round of antibiotics and prednisone at the same time while on birth control recently….my research showed candida as the culprit. I’m just glad I realized that now rather than years down the road. The main knowledgeable person I have to help is my friend’s mom who happens to be a colon therapist, and provides my probiotics.
I was not even able to find a doctor who knew anything about Candida, Or at least they would not admit that they even knew what it was. I had to go to an herbalist plus treat it myself.
The doctors treated me like I was from Mars and STUPID to boot. I am pretty much fed up with doctors.
I have Leaky Gut Syndrome and candida. I have a bad flu like sick feeling daily. I just feel so sick all the time. Plus i have muscle and joint pain all the time.
Does anyone else know what the flu like sick feeling is caused by??? I can not find an answer to this question anywhere.
Please help.. I have to rid myself of this very ill feeling.

Assuming your doctor couldn’t explain your flu-like sick feeling, it could very well be linked to Herxheimer reaction. Check out my article on candida die off: http://www.ecandida.com/candida-die-off-symptoms-and-prevention/
I have found two culprits to causing flu-like symptoms & sore throats. Firstly…even though I never ever felt any heartburn, gastric juices were coming up from my stomach while sleeping & into my nasal passages & causing repeated infections/flu-like symptoms. My doctor said he could see the acid damage on my throat & told me to stop eating or drinking ANYTHING at least 1 and a half hours (longer is even better I think) before lying down. Plus, I was to sleep elevated. You can do this with a bunch of pillows, by raising the head of your bed a lot, or what worked by far the best for me was sleeping on a reading type ramp/wedge that is made of foam that I got at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Following this absolutely changed my life for the better! Secondly, I also have noticed that I get sore throats when my candida issue is flaring up. When I go on my strict cadida diet with no sugar (even from dairy products & fruit), no yeast (bread, etc.), etc. the sore throat goes away. Hope this helps someone.
I have had candida for many years, my doctor refuses I even have it! I think it’s the fear of knowng I have it and have been over prescribed antibiotics.
I am 24 years old and have had at least 12 yeast infections per year for the last 6 years. I have been to every doctor and every specialist in my state and no one can help me. Yeast infections are not my only symptoms I also suffer from extreme migraines, terrible joint and muscle pain, I know it sounds crazy but sometimes my skin hurts. I have no sex drive which is tearing my relationship apart and horrible anxiety. I just found out about this condition yesterday and I’m looking forward to making the change to make myself healthy again. It is not going to be easy, I drink a lot of soda and coffee and have a major sweet tooth (another symptom of Candida). I will post in 6 weeks and let you know how I’m doing. I can’t wait to feel like I’m 24 again!
I went to the doctor two years ago for a pap smear when she came back she told me I had Bacterial Vaginosis. She gave me some pills, treated me like crap and sent me home without saying any other word or answering all the questions I had.I was so scared so I did some research and I decided to visit a Gynecologist at a nice Hospital.I explained her what had happened and asked me about my symptoms.I didn’t have any fishy smell but I had tons of white powdery fluid on my panties plus I explained to her I had just started at 21 to be sexually active and my partner had some tests done as well to make sure he didn’t have any STD’s(im 23 still with the same partner). She said she wanted to make sure it was BV before giving any treatment. She did a variety of lab tests including cultures and BV and VAG screen. She called me to give me a two pill treatment for Candida bc I was misdiagnosed with BV.My symptoms haven’t worsen at all, I still don’t have the fishy smell, I don’t have that much white powder except when Im in my fertile weeks.I feel normal, I can sleep very well, I eat fine, I don’t lose focus or anything at all.I do have some digestive problems but my mother inherited colitis from my grandma and since I was little I started to have the same digestive problems.Does it mean I don’t have it anymore?Could it be that I was misdiagnosed again and maybe the white powder is something else? How severe is Candida? Can it kill me?Can it leave me infertile? Please help me!
I was diagnosed for a Candida Yeast infection about six months ago as I explained before.I’m beginning a Candida diet but it gives me worse side effects than the actual yeast infection. I feel weak, I don’t have enough energy to do my daily activities, I sleep a lot.Two days ago I had burning and itching outside of my vagina but I didn’t want to put anything on so I took cold shower and that seemed to help a little. My vulva is still a little irritated and it itches at times. It’s strange because I never had this symptom,I only had a lot of vaginal discharge when I was diagnosed with Candida. So I researched more about it and found a supplement called Arthur Andrew Medical Syntol AMD it’s a natural supplement.I’ve done tons of research about it and I haven’t found bad reviews or people complaining about side effects but still it sounds too good to be true.I have made my decision to start with this supplement and see how it goes.Hopefully it will help me.I will make an appointment with my gynecologist to check up on me.I’ll let you know if it works as a cure for Candida.Sheba.
I am a recovering alcoholic and have been sober for a year and a half. Over the past 6 months I have had some urine, blood, and even hair alcohol tests come back positive for alcohol (I have had no relapses for a year and a half). When I got sober, I started drinking a lot of Dr. Pepper and eating a lot of carbs when I do eat to fill full faster. I am currently underweight due to the stress of my divorce/custody issues. Tonight my aa sponsor found out and told me about candida albicans. This has to be what’s going on with my body. I need to know what kind of doctor to see, what kind of tests to have run, etc. to find out if this is what is going on. ASAP. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
